ECDVU Community

Learners

The first cohort of MENA-ECDVU learners consisted of a group of 13 committed professionals from the Middle East North Africa region including Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen and Tunisia. The second deliver in the region, in Yemen, includes 15 individuals from various regions of the country, and diverse professional backgrounds. Inclusion in ECDVU is not based solely on a self-identification application process typical of graduate level educational programs. Instead, the names of ECDVU candidates are to emerge from a selection process that emphasizes first, identification of ECD country priorities and secondly, a broadly representative application process. That process worked reasonably well in some of the countries that participated in the first MENA delivery and was a very strong part of the Yemen selection process.

Why was the ECDVU selection process structured in this way? Even though individual aptitude and sustained commitment are critical factors in candidates' success, the ECDVU is not primarily about individual learning and development. It is primarily concerned with advancing ECD within each participating country, and across the Middle East North Africa region, through a "flow-through" of information and involvement in the candidate's learning by the larger ECD "community" within his or her country.

Faculty

ECDVU participants work with a number of the most highly respected ECD faculty available. Distributed globally, and representing diverse sectors of the ECD world, these eminent individuals engage in face-to-face and distance learning with each participant. In turn, with the support of their Middle East North African cohort colleagues and the ECDVU faculty, each participant is required to facilitate the sharing of new ideas and skills through interacting with his/her country-based ECD network.
